The history of the Schleißheim airfield started in 1912 with the
founding of the
Bavarian air troop. The airfield is one of the oldest existing.
The development in part dates back to the very first years of
flying.
After the first world war, Schleißheim became the centre of the ever increasing
air travel. Further, it became the practical centre for the German flying school
and eventually the new airbase for the German airforce.
After the war the airfield was taken over firstly by the American and later once
again the German airforce. Finally various private flying clubs and a squadron
of the German border patrol were to share the airfield.
